Northern Passages & Glacier Bay

A classic small ship cruise into the nooks and corners of South East Alaska that larger vessels can only dream about. This is remote, wilderness country that few get to visit, and fewer get to experience.

Spend your days admiring the wonderful wildlife against a backdrop of 15,000 foot mountains, interspersed with huge glaciers and vast forests. Expect to see dozens of whales and a great deal of smaller wildlife as we cruise and explore by Zodiac, kayak and on foot.

Safari Endeavour is newly refurbished 86-guest yacht. Cruise departs Saturdays from Juneau.

Explorers Against Extinction works to raise awareness as well as funds for specific conservation projects all around the world. Tour Itinerary

DAY 1

Juneau
You start in Juneau, first settled in the gold rush days. Board the 232 feet Safari Endeavour cruise ship - your home for the next week.

DAY 2

Lynn Canal or Chatham Strait
Your Captain selects the route today depending on conditions. Look out for bald eagles, seals and orcas as you navigate the glorious coastline. These areas are perfect for exploring by kayak and paddle board.

DAY 3

Glacier Bay National Park
Head to Glacier Bay National Park - UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve - you’re in for a real treat. At Bartlett Cove, a park ranger joins in on your day’s exploration and shares the park’s history. Have your binoculars handy— South Marble Island is a birder’s slice of heaven. Puffins scoot through the water. Guillemots and gulls chatter up the airwaves. The snoozing sea lions don’t seem to mind. Finish the day with a view of Margerie and Grand Pacific Glaciers before putting your feet up as you sail towards Icy Strait.

DAY 4

Icy Strait
The remote and wild Icy Strait is the place for marine mammals. Look out for dolphins in the bow wave and the tell-tale sign of spouts and fin slaps. Your crew will find a quiet pocket to moor up while you explore this rugged area further.

DAY 5

Chichagof Island / Peril Strait
Meander through glacier-carved fjords along the Chichagof coast before lowering the kayaks and exploring land and sea. Keep a keen eye out for bears - one of the world's largest populations can be found here.

DAY 6

Sergius Narrows / Neva Strait
The aptly named narrows squeezes to only 300 feet wide in one spot and a shallow 24 feet deep. The shorelines are close and it’s good territory for play. Skiff ashore and hike into the backcountry. Opening at Hoonah Sound, the squeeze is back on. Wind into Neva Strait. Watch the scenery change in the late fading light—from the hot tub of course.

DAY 7

Krestof & Nakwasina Sounds
There aren’t many straight lines along Baranof Island. Its western side is spattered with remote, uninhabited islands. Secluded coves and calm inlets offer endless opportunities for adventure. Kayak, paddle board, or skiff—you’re on the level with curious sea lions and possibly whales. Rocky intertidal zones make good beach combing.

DAY 8

Sitka
Disembarkation. Cruise into Sitka this morning over breakfast before saying farewell and continuing your journey.
